The Bangladesh cricket team slipped to a three-wicket defeat against Zimbabwe in Sylhet to concede an early lead to the visitors. The defeat seems to have prompted the hosts to make some changes in the squad as they brace themselves to face Zimbabwe in the impending series-decider in Chittagong.
Young fast bowler Nahid Rana, who picked up three wickets in the opening match against Zimbabwe, is set to leave Bangladesh to join the Peshawar Zalmi franchise in the ongoing PSL 2025 season in Pakistan.
Domestic veteran returns to Bangladesh team
Anamul Haque, who made his Test debut back in March 2013 and played the last of his five Tests for Bangladesh in June 2022, is set to make his return to the national team in red-ball cricket for the upcoming series-decider against Zimbabwe. The 32-year-old will be replacing wicketkeeper-batter Zakir Hasan, who was not selected in Bangladesh’s playing XI in Sylhet.
Anamul emerged as the highest run-maker of the recently concluded 50-overs Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2025 season, minting 874 runs in 14 innings at an exceptional batting average of 79.45. The cricketer will be aiming to sustain his prolific domestic run as he bids to extend his Test career.
Despite making his Test debut back in 2013, Anamul Haque has played just five Tests for Bangladesh, tallying 100 runs in 10 innings at a dismal average of 10.
In another change, fast bowler Nahid Rana, however, is set to prioritize the PSL 2025 season for the Peshawar Zalmi franchise over national duties.
