Virat Kohli and his team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Tuesday canceled their only practice session before their crucial IPL 2024 playoff against Sanju Samson's Rajasthan Royals (RR).

The session was scheduled at the Gujarat College ground in Ahmedabad but was called off, leading to speculation about security threats to Kohli and the team.

Multiple reports suggested that RCB's decision was due to security concerns, particularly for Kohli. A report from the Bengali daily Ananda Bazar Patrika highlighted that RCB had to cancel their practice because of a potential threat to Kohli's safety.

This speculation was further fueled by the recent arrest of four men at the Ahmedabad airport over suspected terror activities.

GCA breaks silence on security threat to Kohli

However, the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) broke the silence regarding Kohli’s security and has firmly denied these claims. Anil Patel, Secretary of the GCA, clarified the situation.

"There was no terror threat. We had made provision for both the Rajasthan Royals and RCB to practice at the Gujarat College ground. RCB were supposed to practice from 2 to 5 pm, before they changed it to 3-6 pm, as the light is good till 6.30 pm in the summer in Ahmedabad. However, the Rajasthan Royals practiced from 3.30 to 6.30 pm at the Gujarat College ground with their full squad," Patel stated.

Patel further explained that the real reason behind the cancellation was the severe heat wave in Ahmedabad.

"RCB skipped their practice session due to the prevailing heat wave in the city. We had told RCB that they could use the indoor practice facility there, or at the Indoor facility at the Narendra Modi Stadium. However, RCB didn't want to practice because of the heatwave," he added.

As RCB gears up to face Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator at the Narendra Modi Stadium, former skipper Virat Kohli remains the leading run-getter of the season, holding the Orange Cap with over 700 runs.
