Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fans have double reasons to celebrate as their team secured a spot in the IPL 2024 final and their star all-rounder, Sunil Narine, achieved a significant personal milestone.

Sunil Narine surpasses Ashwin to achieve 'this' feat

During the IPL 2024 Qualifier 1 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Narine surpassed Ravichandran Ashwin to become the fifth-highest wicket-taker in IPL history.

In the crucial match, Narine bowled a four-over spell, conceding 40 runs and taking the pivotal wicket of Sanvir Singh, who was dismissed for a golden duck in the 14th over.

This wicket marked Narine's 179th in the IPL, pushing him past Ashwin's 178 wickets. Ashwin, having played 210 IPL matches, now stands just behind Narine, who has achieved his tally in 174 matches.

The record for the most wickets in IPL history is held by Yuzvendra Chahal, who has 204 wickets in 158 matches.

Sunil Narine, a 35-year-old right-arm off-spinner, made his IPL debut in 2012 and has been a consistent performer for KKR ever since.

KKR's victory over SRH not only secured their direct entry into the IPL 2024 final but also set up a tense Qualifier 2. SRH will face the winner of the eliminator match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) for another chance to compete in the final.
