'There Is No Guarantee' - Jay Shah Reflects On India's 156.7 kph Star Mayank Yadav's Future

Mayank Yadav, who rose through the ranks during the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to his extraordinary pace, is currently in the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. 

The 22-year-old, who was the star for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), is in rehabilitation to get back to his very best after a hamstring injury.

However, Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, believes he is not ready for the mega stage anytime soon. Shah reckons he, of course, is a hot prospect, but ‘there is no guarantee’ about his place immediately.

"...I cannot give you any answer on Mayank Yadav as there is no guarantee whether he will be in the team or not. But he is potentially a good fast bowler, and we are looking after him. He is currently in the NCA," Jay Shah told Times of India.

Having clocked at 156.7 kph, Mayank was absolutely electric during the IPL 2024. He was bought for only INR 20 lakh in the auction, but by taking seven wickets in four matches at an economy rate of just 6.99 confirmed that he is here to stay. 

However, the only area where he needs to focus on is to stay fit in order to get a long run for the country.

It will be interesting to see whether Mayank Yadav will be retained by Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
