Bangladesh have suffered a huge setback ahead of the Test series against Pakistan, with in-form opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy being ruled out of the high-voltage tour due to an injury. Since making his debut, Joy has been a vital cog in Bangladesh's red-ball setup, amassing 623 runs, including a century and four fifties.

However, he picked up a groin injury during Bangladesh- A's four-day affair against Pakistan Shaheens, ruling him out of the two-match series

So, as he is out of the series, let's see what Bangladesh's strongest XI could be for the first Test in Rawalpindi.

Shadman Islam to replace Mahmudul Hasan?

Mahmudul Hasan Joy was all set to open the batting for Bangladesh alongside Zakir Hasan in the Pakistan Tests.

However, as he has been ruled out, the Tigers might rope in Shadman Islam as their second opener for the first Test in Rawalpindi. In 13 Tests, Shadman has garnered 559 runs, including a ton, at an average of 23.29.

Meanwhile, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto will bat at number three followed by Mominul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim.

Litton Das will bat at number seven and don the wicket-keeper's hat. Mehidy Hasan Miraz will play as Bangladesh's number eight, with Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam filling up the remaining slots.

If a seam-friendly track is dished out, we might see Hasan Mahmud being preferred over Taijul.
