India's legendary cricketer, MS Dhoni, might incur a heavy financial loss of eight crores if retained as an uncapped player for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League.

Notably, Dhoni might be retained as an uncapped player if the BCCI reinstates a specific rule before the 2025 mega auction.

The rule states that if a player is retired for five years or more, he can be treated as an uncapped player heading to the auction.

As Dhoni retired in 2020, Chennai Super Kings might retain him under the uncapped players' category for the 2025 edition of the tournament.

MS Dhoni to incur 8 Cr loss if he plays as an uncapped player?

Meanwhile, Dhoni might suffer a hefty financial loss of eight crores if he is retained as an uncapped player.

An uncapped Indian player can be retained for INR 4 Crores as per the existing IPL retention rules.

For the unversed, MS Dhoni was retained for a whopping amount of INR 12 Crores ahead of the 2022 mega auction.

Thus, if CSK doesn't release him to the auction pool, the Indian veteran could lose eight crores for being an uncapped player. The BCCI has yet to amend the retention rules, which will likely be made much prior to the mega auction.
