Rinku Singh, India’s finest finisher in T20 cricket, was snubbed from the T20 World Cup 15-member squad due to combination issues. But captain Rohit Sharma went out of his way to comfort the batter and encourage him to continue the grind.

Lower-order finisher Rinku Singh rose to fame through his staggering finishing knocks in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). His five successive sixes off Yash Dayal to win a thriller for KKR in 2023 fast-tracked his promotion to the Indian national team.

Moreover, Rinku Singh was the favourite to feature in his first ICC event for India before Ajit Agarkar led selection committee snubbed him off India’s T20 World Cup 15-member squad for an extra bowling option in the form of Shivam Dube.

Rinku Singh had to settle for a travel reserve as Dube delivered decent performances in India’s title-winning campaign.

Meanwhile, ahead of the home series against Bangladesh, Rinku Singh recalled a personal conversation with captain Rohit Sharma where the latter comforted Rinku and put forward an explanation behind the snub.

Rinku revealed that Rohit Sharma urged him to not get disappointed and focus on the grind. Rohit added how the finisher is still young and will get plenty of chances to feature in a World Cup as such tournaments happen almost every two years now.

"Haan woh (Rohit Sharma) aaye the samjane ki koi baat nahi, teri umar hi kya hai. World Cup aage bohut hai. Mehnat karte reh. Har do saal mein World Cup aata hai, uspe dhyaan de. Koi dikkat nahi hai, pareshan mat ho," Rinku said.

Hence, instead of dwelling in the past, Rohit Sharma advised Rinku Singh to stay prepared when his time eventually comes.

Meanwhile, Rinku Singh is expected to feature in the upcmingthree-game T20I series against Bangladesh starting on October 6.
