In a significant development, the Ajit Agarkar-led men's selection committee has unveiled India's squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the United States.

While the squad sees the return of Yuzvendra Chahal, Rinku Singh's omission from the main squad raised eyebrows.

Since making his T20I debut, Rinku has been exceptional as a finisher for team India, amassing 356 runs at a blistering strike rate of 176.24. He has capitalised on whatever chances he has got, which is why his exclusion surprised fans as well as experts.

Why Is Rinku Singh Not Picked In India's Main Squad?

Although Rinku has been consistent with the bat for India, there might be several reasons for not picking him in their World Cup squad.

No guaranteed place in the playing XI

With India set to have a middle-order comprising Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja, Rinku was not likely to start in their playing XI for the sake of team combination.

This is one of the biggest reasons why he has been named in the reserves instead of the main squad.

Shivam Dube gets preference

Rinku had a sole competitor in Shivam Dube, with India already having six fixed slots for Jaiswal, Rohit, Kohli, Suryakumar, Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant.

However, considering Dube's incredible all-round attributes, the management might have preferred him over Rinku for the main squad.

Recent IPL form

The recent form of Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh could be the biggest deciding factor to choose one of them for the marquee event.

While Dube has set the IPL 2024 on fire with his stunning performances, Rinku hasn't got enough deliveries to bat for KKR.

However, in eight innings, he scored 123 runs at an abysmal average of 20.50, making things tough for himself regarding the World Cup selection.
