Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has made a bold prediction regarding the future of Pakistan's white-ball coach, Gary Kirsten. According to Basit, Kirsten's tenure with the Pakistan team may come to an end following the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The outspoken ex-batter believes that despite Kirsten’s reputation as a World Cup-winning coach, the current situation within Pakistan cricket will lead to his dismissal after the tournament.

Basit shared his views in a video posted on his YouTube channel, where he predicted that even reaching the semi-finals would be a remarkable achievement for Pakistan under Kirsten’s leadership. However, he expressed doubt about the team’s ability to perform at a high level given recent developments in Pakistani cricket.

Gary Kirsten's Journey With Pakistan

Gary Kirsten, who coached India to World Cup victory in 2011, took charge as Pakistan’s white-ball coach earlier this year. There was much optimism when he was appointed, given his experience and previous success on the international stage. Unfortunately, Kirsten’s journey with Pakistan got off to a rocky start.

Pakistan had a disastrous outing in the 2024 T20 World Cup, failing to advance past the group stages. Losses to India and the United States were particularly shocking, resulting in an early exit. Despite Kirsten’s efforts, the team struggled to find its rhythm, raising concerns about his ability to turn things around for Pakistan’s white-ball cricket.

In his analysis, Basit Ali suggested that politics within Pakistani cricket might play a role in Kirsten’s expected departure. He said,

"Congratulations to Gary Kirsten. He will be at the helm of the team till the Champions Trophy. However, he will be fired after the Champions Trophy. I am saying this now that it will be tata, bye bye for him. It will be a big achievement for Pakistan to make it to the top four. They have also stepped into the politics of Pakistani cricket. They won't be successful."

Basit concluded by reiterating that while Kirsten may lead the team through the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, his time with Pakistan is likely limited.

Gary Kirsten Raises Concern Over Professionalism In Pakistan Cricket

In a recent development, Gary Kirsten has called for greater professionalism and unity among players in the Pakistan men’s national cricket team. Speaking during a press conference organized by the PCB on September 23, Kirsten emphasised the need to restore pride in the team. He shed light on the importance of discipline, teamwork, and dedication to ensure the team’s success on the international stage.
