In the wake of the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, that claimed the lives of 26 people, sharp criticism has emerged from former Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria. He accused Pakistan of sheltering terrorists and questioned their silence on the matter.

The attack took place in Baisaran, a popular tourist spot near Pahalgam, where a group of armed terrorists opened fire on innocent civilians. Most of the victims were tourists.

The place, a few kilometres away from the Pahalgam market, was accessible only by horses, so it was not easy to run away quickly when the attack was launched.

Danish Kaneria Accuses Pakistan Of Harbouring Terrorists

While the Pakistan Foreign Office later released a short statement expressing concern over the loss of lives, many, including former Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria, found the response weak and too late.

He directly blamed Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for not condemning the brutal act and accused him of “sheltering and nurturing terrorists.”

While Pakistan’s government has remained silent, some former players, including Mohammad Hafeez, have expressed sorrow. In India, the sports community has come together in support of the victims. Cricketing greats Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli lamented, while Shreevats Goswami called for a total suspension of sporting relations with Pakistan.

In a recent IPL 2025 match between MI and SRH, players wore black armbands to pay homage to the victims and held a minute's silence before the start of the game.

Indian Government Takes Diplomatic Action

Meanwhile, India has taken strong steps against Pakistan, accusing it of supporting terrorism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting with top leaders and security officials, and they decided on five major actions, such as suspending the sharing of river water with Pakistan under the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari-Wagah Border, expelling Pakistan’s military advisers, and banning Pakistani Nationals from entering India.
