India’s generational fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah equalled Lasith Malinga’s record of taking the most wickets (170) for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. He picked up a wicket vs SRH in IPL 2025 to equal the mighty milestone.
Lasith Malinga, the Sri Lankan yorker king, played a vital role in Mumbai Indians' ascension to power in the early days.
With his toe-crushers and cool head in pressure situations, Malinga played a massive role in MI’s multiple title wins to become a franchise legend. Now, Jasprit Bumrah is carrying on his legacy by eyeing his big records.
Jasprit Bumrah Picks Up 170 Wickets For MI
In the 41st game of the IPL 2025 tournament, Mumbai Indians played Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Uppal Stadium in Hyderabad. However, MI bowlers dominated the proceedings of the first innings. Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar’s fiery spells reduced SRH to 35/5 in 8.3 overs.
Jasprit Bumrah also joined the party to dismiss set batter Heinrich Klaasen. He bowled a full toss angling in towards the leg stump, and Klaasen went for the big swipe but didn’t get the timing right.
The ball went up in the air towards deep backward square leg, where Tilak Varma held on safely to a pressure catch to end the batter’s 71 off 44 balls stay at the crease.
That marked Bumrah’s 170th wicket for Mumbai Indians, equalling Lasith Malinga’s record of most wickets taken in MI’s franchise’s history. Not only that, Bumrah also unlocked his 300th T20 wicket.
Since his debut in 2013, Jasprit Bumrah has served only one franchise, the Mumbai Indians. With 170 wickets already in his kitty, it's safe to say he is a legend in the making for MI.
