Former Pakistan captain Moin Khan has again slammed PCB for removing Shaheen Afridi from white ball captaincy without any substantial reason as he deemed the pacer the most suitable leader amongst the current generation.

Shaheen Afridi, who’s been struggling with pace and command since returning from injury, was named Pakistan’s white-call captain after Babar Azam relinquished captaincy following Pakistan's disastrous exit from the 2023 ODI World Cup group stages.

However, with just one series loss against New Zealand, Afridi was shown the exit doors as PCB’s new regime led by Mohsin Naqvi reinstated Babar Azam as Pakistan’s white-ball captain.

Since then, rumours of rift between senior players have surfaced and the toxic dressing room environment is directly leading to Pakistan’s fall in international cricket.

Shaheen Afridi gets support from Moin Khan in captaincy debate!

Meanwhile, former Pakistan captain Moin Khan, has blamed PCB for this unrest stating that Shaheen Afridi shouldn’t have been fired as captain in the first place. He is liked by everyone in the team and is suitable for shorter format captaincy.

"Shaheen Afridi has the ability to lead the team and is highly liked by the players. He is an excellent choice for captaincy in T20s. In white-ball cricket, I don't see anyone else more suitable for the role. Removing him from the captaincy was unjust," Khan said.

Not only that, Moin Khan claimed that Afridi’s performance has dropped since the captaincy switch and that PCB is destroying a player’s morale by not backing them.

"How can you expect good performance if you don't give players confidence? They should be given some time as captain. Players may not listen to their captain if there are constant changes," he added.

He also argued that due to constant changes, players often tend to disobey the captain and his orders.

Moin Khan accuses PCB of destroying son Azam Khan’s career

In an earlier scathing attack, Moin Khan accused ex-PCB chairman Ramiz Raja of purposely demoralising his son Azam Khan by dropping him off the 2021 T20 World Cup squad after he was initially named as first-choice wicket-keeper by the selectors.

He called out Ramiz Raja’s lack of courage to confront the selectors and that PCB’s internal mind games destroyed his son’s international career. Moin also slammed Pakistan’s mismanagement that got Azam Khan dropped after just one game in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
