In a startling revelation, it is learned that former Pakistan cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq was rejected for the Champions One-Day Cup mentorship role as PCB preferred Sarfaraz Ahmed over him due to the latter's active involvement in modern-day international cricket.
The Champions One-Day Cup domestic tournament was set up by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) with a view of identifying promising talent capable of rebuilding the Pakistan cricket team from rock bottom.
To mentor five teams, PCB appointed mentors on a monthly PKR 5 million salary. Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Waqar Younis, and Saqlain Mushtaq were named mentors ahead of the tournament opening day.

That being said, local media back in Pakistan is reporting that former Pakistan cricketer and chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq was also among the probable candidates who interviewed for the mentorship role.
However, his bid was reportedly rejected as PCB deemed wicket-keeper Sarfaraz Ahmed as a better choice. Ahmed, a veteran wicket-keeper batter, is also a part of the One-Day cup as he is selected to play for Dolphins led by Saud Shakeel.
It's important to note that Inzamam-ul-Haq was forced to resign from his chief selector post earlier due to conflict of interest charges. A five-member investigation committee set up by PCB is yet to reach a verdict on the accusations.
