There are rumors circulating that Shaheen Afridi might step down as Pakistan's T20 captain after just one series. Babar Azam is set to be appointed as the next captain of Pakistan's white-ball cricket team. Pakistan is currently training ahead of the T20 series against New Zealand at home, gearing up at Kakul camp.

Latest reports suggest that Shaheen Afridi appears downcast at the camp, and Pakistan players tend to avoid talking about captaincy in his presence.

Shaheen Afridi disappointed with PCB

After Babar Azam stepped down from the captaincy due to disappointments in the ODI World Cup and Asia Cup, Shaheen Afridi took over as captain of the Pakistan T20 team. Under his leadership, Pakistan played a 5-match T20 series in New Zealand, which they lost 4-1.

Recently, there have been reports that Shaheen is disappointed by the lack of communication from Mohsin Naqvi, the PCB Chairman, and the national selectors regarding future captaincy plans.

"Even I don't know who the captain will be. Whether Shaheen continues or a new captain comes in will be determined after the fitness camp (starting on Monday). There are a number of technical factors we will consider, the details of which I do not want to go into. We want a long-term solution, whether it's Shaheen or a new man. And then we intend to stick by that man, instead of just changing a captain just because you lose a match or captain," Naqvi had said  about Pakistan captaincy dilemma.

However PCB intends to handle the situation with care to ensure that Shaheen doesn't feel disappointed or left behind. They aim to instill full confidence in him and support him through this period.

Babar Azam to return as white format captain

With Shaheen stepping down from the T20 captaincy, there are rumors circulating that Babar Azam might reclaim the white-ball captaincy for Pakistan during the home series versus  New Zealand.

This series will include 5 T20Is ahead of the World Cup. Pakistan already facing challenges without a coach, now finds itself grappling with captaincy dilemmas, raising concerns about their preparation leading up to the World Cup in June.
