Last month, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Nitish Kumar Reddy received the Indian jersey for the first time when he was picked for the Zimbabwe series. However, due to an unfortunate injury, he was later unavailable to participate in the five-match tie.

Nitish, 21, had an outstanding IPL 2024, aggregating 303 across 13 matches while also picking up three wickets. He was fittingly adjudged the Emerging Player of the Tournament award, and now, he recalls an emotional story about his father who risked his job to allow him to play cricket.

Nitish Rana's Emotional Story About His Father

In a recent interview with ESPNCricinfo, Nitish recalled how much troubles his father had when he was trying to make a name for himself.

"Fame is a funny thing. After the IPL, the same people who told my father how he was foolish to risk his career for me started praising him for his foresight. I remembered they got emotional when my India kit arrived," Nitish Reddy said, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.

"He quit and invested the corpus he received into a microfinance business in Vizag [Visakhapatnam]. But unfortunately, when the business did not do well, our own extended family, society - everyone else started taunting him for his decision. As much as he tried not to let that filter through to me, eventually he could not help it," he added.

Further, Nitish revealed how people changed their attitude towards his father when he lost his job.

"I saw how people's attitudes towards him changed from when he had a job to after he quit. They would disrespect him, he would be ignored. I could not take it. That spurred my motivation to give it my all, because my father had given up everything for me. Until then, I had played for fun, but from there on, everything changed," Nitish concluded his point," he concluded.

It will be interesting to see when Nitish will get his next opportunity for Team India. He is currently recovering, and is prepared to play for Andhra Pradesh in Duleep Trophy, which will begin on September 5.
