Australia's top-order batter Matt Renshaw has been incredible throughout the ODI series against India. He has scored 107 runs in three matches at an average of 53.50. Renshaw has been playing in the Sheffield Shield tournament for a long time and is expecting a call back from the selectors for the upcoming Ashes series against England.
Matt Renshaw hopeful of possible Test comeback
Ahead of the Ashes 2025-26, Matt Renshaw believes that his performance in the ODI series is likely to help him get a seat in the Test team. He last played a Test match for Australia back in 2023. He spoke about his intent and how he has been in form throughout. Interestingly, Renshaw was a part of Queensland's Sheffield Shield team but stayed with the national team to clash against India in the ODIs. After the white-ball series, the batter is set to return to the domestic tournament on Tuesday.
"I got to play against the best ODI side in the world. For me, I get to represent my country, play in a format I've never done before, experience playing in front of full crowds against an unbelievable Indian side. I'm ready for Tuesday. The Shield game on Tuesday. I think it's the same cricket ball, it's just a different colour. My batting, if I'm showing good intent, whatever format that may be, it's obviously the different shots that you need to play in red ball," said Matt Renshaw as quoted by Cricket.com.au.
Ashes 2025-26 to begin in November
After a two-year wait, the Ashes 2025-26 is set to return, with the first match scheduled for November 21 in Perth. The teams will be excited to clash against each other once again. The series is essential for England, as they are struggling to climb the points table in the WTC cycle.
Meanwhile, Australia are leading the table with three consecutive Test victories. England have never made it to the WTC Finals, so this might be their chance to turn the tables in their favor. According to experts, the Perth Test is likely to be the game-changer for England, so they will need to be prepared.
