Former Pakistani wicketkeeper and captain Rashid Latif has expressed concerns regarding the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) management of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for players wishing to participate in foreign franchise T20 leagues.
Rashid Latif unhappy with PCB
The PCB issued the notification after Pakistan's loss to India in the Asia Cup 2025 final, making it even more sensitive. According to Latif, verbal promises rather than formal confirmation can damage players' careers and the PCB's ties with other cricket boards as well. The move can also affect PSL, which is among the most popular franchise leagues worldwide.
"With the approval of Chairman PCB, all No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for players with respect to participation in leagues and other out-of-country tournaments are hereby put on hold until further orders."
The former player took to his X account and tweeted, "After suspension, NOC is verbally promised to players, Big Bash franchises and other leagues, but nothing is in writing yet. If the aim is not to further isolate Pakistan players in T20 cricket, officials must act with responsibility. Pulling players back to satisfy own egos after granting NOCs damages careers, trust with franchises, and ties with other boards. PSL will feel the ripple effects too," Latif said.
Big Bash League participation for Pakistan stars
Several Pakistani stars are set to feature in the Australian T20 league after receiving approval from the PCB. Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, Hasan Ali, Shadab Khan, Harish Rauf, and Hassan Khan are set to feature in the upcoming BBL season.
The league is set to start from December 14 and will commence on January 25, 2026. Babar Azam will make his BBL debut for the Sydney Sixers in the tournament opener against the Perth Scorchers. It would be interesting to see PCB's next stance on the ongoing situation, especially after Latif's criticism.
