Karun Nair, who was ousted from India’s Test team after the England tour, has knocked back on the selectors' doors. In the recent Ranji game vs Goa, he scored 174* for Karnataka while batting at no. 4.

Just ahead of the Ranji Trophy 2025/26 season, Nair was dropped from India’s Test squad. He scored 205 runs in 8 innings on the England tour with just 1 half-century.

Despite making a comeback after 7 years, Nair failed to impress the selectors and was subsequently dropped.

Karun Nair shines in the Ranji Trophy with a scintillating knock

However, Karun Nair, who once scored a triple century in Test cricket, was not backing down without a fight. Representing Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy 2025/26 season, he made headlines in the latest match against Goa.

Coming in at 26/2, Nair made multiple partnerships that slowly brought Karnataka out of trouble, particularly his 117-run stand with Shreyas Gopal (57) and a crucial 60-run partnership with Vijaykumar Vyshak (31).

He made the start count and brought up a hundred in no time. Karun Nair continued to grind and finished with a stunning unbeaten knock of 174 off 267 balls.

His shot selection was immaculate, his timing effortless, and his temperament ice-cool. With 14 fours and 3 sixes, Nair’s innings flowed with both elegance and grit.

Nair’s knock propelled Karnataka to finish with a 371-run total in the first inning.

Karun Nair’s love affair with Karnataka continues

Meanwhile, ahead of the Ranji Trophy 2025/26 season, Karun Nair reunited with Karnataka after a brief stint with Vidarbha

In 12 innings with Vidarbha, he hammered 782 runs with a 65.16 average, which resulted in his comeback into the Test team earlier this year.

However, things have started to fall out again for Karun Nair, as he is fighting against rivals who are much younger and long-term prospects for India’s Test team’s future.
