The first Test between India and Bangladesh was an emotional affair for keeper-batter, Rishabh Pant. The explosive batter suffered a horrific car accident in December 2022, and was out of the Indian side for almost 1.5 years.

Comeback man Rishabh Pant makes his triumphic return

He made his heroic return during the IPL 2024 season, and was also part of the India squad which won the T20 World Cup in USA/West Indies. However, Pant's absence was dearly felt in the Test squad.

In his absence, Team India tried KL Rahul as the wicket-keeper, and also handed debut cap to Dhruv Jurel in the last series against England, however, something was missing from the team, and that missing piece in the jigsaw puzzle was Pant's dynamism in the side.

He played in the Duleep Trophy match to get match-fit for the Tests and after 634 days, he made a stellar comeback in the Test match against Bangladesh. He had moderate success in the first innings, but Pant showed his class in the second innings, and when the chips were down, the dynamic batter slammed a brilliant century and bailed India out of a tricky situation.

After Pant's heroic knock, Team India skipper, Rohit Sharma lauded the Indian keeper, and stated that he is glad to have Pant back in the Test squad for India.

"Pant has gone through some tough times. The way he has managed himself through those tough times is great. He was part of the IPL and was part of the successful World Cup. He is here and he loves playing in this format. We always knew what he can do with bat and gloves. We wanted him back. He played in the Duleep Trophy and got ready and so happy to see him back," Rohit said at the post-match presentation.

Ashwin's spell seals victory for Team India in Chennai

Ashwin, first contributed with the bat by scoring a brilliant ton, and then came back in the fourth innings to once again haunt the Bangladesh batters.

The Tigers needed 515 runs to win the first Test, and it was always going to be a tough test for the Bangladesh batters. The chief destroyer with the ball was R Ashwin, who showed guile and skill to bag a brilliant six-wicket haul as the Tigers were bundled out for a mere 234.

He finished with figures of 6 for 88 as India won the contest by a whopping 280 runs to take a 1-0 lead.
