R Ashwin Equals MS Dhoni's Test Record With Stunning Century In Chennai Test
Ashwin equals MSD's Test record [x]
Ravichandran Ashwin, known for his exploits with the ball, produced one of the best counter-attacking knocks in Indian history, when he smacked a brilliant ton on Day 1 of the Chennai Test. He batted with aggression and took the attack to the opposition with scintillating strokes.
With India under pressure after losing key players - Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli, the team needed someone to soak the pressure and keep the positive mindset going. They found an unlikely hero in the form of Ashwin, who was at his imperial best and showed why he is one of the best all-rounders in Tests at the moment.
He scored 113 off 133 deliveries, comprising 11 fours and 2 sixes and forged a valuable partnership with Ravindra Jadeja (86) as Team India posted a mammoth 376 in their first innings.
This was R Ashwin's 6th Test century and he now has the same number of centuries as former India skipper, MS Dhoni. MSD, often used to bat in situations when India used to struggle, and as a result, he has slammed 33 fifties in Tests, but only has 6 centuries.
Ashwin's love-affair with Chepauk continues
Ashwin loves the Chepauk ground and this was his second successive ton at this venue, with the previous one coming against England in 2021. He is only the fifth player to register multiple five-fers and multiple centuries at a single venue in Tests (Chennai).
The Indian off-spinner knows the ground on the back of his hands and courtesy of his sublime century, India are in a commanding position in the Test match.
