In a significant development, there are reports that the upcoming mega-auction for IPL 2025 is likely to take place on November 24 and 25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. According to reports from ANI, the BCCI wants to tap to new markets which is why they will hold the event in Riyadh.
The Roger Binny-led board are in advance stage and have made all the necessary preparations regarding the mega-auction. Earlier, there were reports that the BCCI were mulling England, Singapore and Dubai as options, but are going ahead with Riyadh as they want to tap the Saudi Arabia market.
Why Did BCCI Choose Saudi Arabia?
The board is yet to communicate about their decision with the franchises as all teams await the venue so that they can begin their visa process and other documentation.
Talking about the other venues, BCCI dropped England as the potential venue because of the cold conditions. Further, they earlier had issues with finding a hotel in Saudi Arabia, which is why Dubai and Singapore were kept as back-up option to host the mega-auction.
Broadcasters Face A Issue With Mega-Auction Timing
Notably, the broadcasters are concerned with the mega-auction being held on November 24 as it will collide with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which begins on November 22. The positive is that the time difference in Australia will help the broadcasters as the match would early by afternoon and the auction can be held after that.
The Roger Binny-led side is yet to officially announce the auction date and timings.
