Indian wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha has announced his retirement from competitive cricket. The 40-year-old Bengal cricketer took to X on November 3 and confirmed that the ongoing 2024 Ranji Trophy season will be his final on-field appearance.
Saha kept wickets for Team India in Tests following the retirement of legendary stumper MS Dhoni. The Bengal veteran went on to earn 40 Test caps for India between 2010 and 2021.

Team India discard Wriddhiman Saha has confirmed his retirement from competitive cricket through a recent social media post on X. On November 3, i.e., just a couple of days prior to Bengal’s next Elite Group C match against Karnataka, Saha wrote that the ongoing 2024 Ranji Trophy edition will be his final appearance and he wants to make this season ‘one to remember’.
Wridhhiman Saha's Career
Wriddhiman Saha rejoined the Bengal cricket team for India’s 2024-25 domestic season after a two-year gig with Tripura. In Bengal’s opening Elite Group C match of the tournament against Uttar Pradesh last month, the right-handed batter was dismissed for a six-ball duck.
He averages 29.41 in Tests and nearly 42 in all first-class cricket, having scored over 7,000 runs in 138 matches with 14 centuries and 43 additional scores of fifty or more. Wriddhiman Saha also notched up three Test centuries against teams like West Indies, Bangladesh and Australia in 40 matches for India.
The red-ball expert played the last of his 40 Tests for India back in December 2021 with a home match against New Zealand at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
