In a candid remark, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal backed Prithvi Shaw to regain his aura as the next-generation superstar after the 25-year-old went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Shaw, who had been part of DC for six years, found no takers after a series of failures and fitness concerns.
Prithvi Shaw, who rose to fame at the tender age of 18, became a millionaire overnight after Delhi Capitals bought him for INR 1.20 crore in IPL 2018. He spent 6 six years with the franchise with a hike of INR 8 crore before his form took a hit due to fitness issues and the pressure of living up to the hype.
Jindal reacts to Prithvi Shaw IPL snub
After getting dropped from Ranji Trophy, Prithvi Shaw hit another low as he went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Reacting to the same on Sports Tak, DC co-owner Parth Jindal revealed that Shaw is still a great player but he needs a jolt to regain focus. He also added that perhaps the pressure of becoming the next Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli got the better of him.
"Prithvi is a great kid. He is misunderstood in many ways. And I think all of us growing up need a jolt and need to be shaken up from our slumber. All your life you grow up hearing that you are the special one, you're the most talented, you're the only other batter in the world other than Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli to have a MRF bat. That tells you a lot about what everyone thought about him," he said.
However, Parth Jindal stated that too much success and money in a short time messed with Prithvi Shaw’s head, and this IPL snub should jolt him in ways like never before. This low phase is an opportunity for him to fall back in love with the game that made him a superstar as a teenager.
"I think this is that one jolt Prithvi needed. Till now, he was on a fat IPL contract, he was playing for Mumbai across all formats, and was someone starting for DC atleast. I think he needs to work hard. He needs to get back to loving the game of cricket. He needs to get back to the nets, get his fitness. He needs to get back and understand where he went wrong and get disciplined," he added.
Shaw continues to hit rock bottom
Days after being rejected at the IPL 2025 mega auction, Prithvi Shaw returned to Mumbai’s playing XI against Maharashtra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 to redeem himself. However, the redemption turned into a nightmare as the youngster was undone by Mukesh Choudhary for a 3-ball duck.
Shaw appeared to have nicked a low delivery sliding down the leg side and was adjudged caught behind by the on-field umpire. While replays were inconclusive, the umpire call stayed, and Shaw had to make his way back to mark another failure.
