Fitness And Controversy Concerns: Prithvi Shaw Goes Unsold At IPL 2025 Auction

Once considered as one of the most promising young talents in Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw found himself without a buyer at the IPL 2025 mega auction today (November 25). Despite entering the auction with a modest base price of Rs 75 lakh, the swashbuckling opener was overlooked by all franchises.  

Prithvi Shaw was with the Delhi Capitals since 2018, and known for his aggressive stroke play his IPL journey began with great promise. However, a series of controversies and personal issues have continually overshadowed his abilities. And with all this controversy it appears that IPL franchises have finally decided they are unwilling to take a gamble on his inconsistent performances.

Why Did Prithvi Shaw Go Unsold In IPL 2025? 

Fitness Related Issue

  • Prithvi Shaw’s has faced several off-field issues recently that has contributed to his current form. From doping controversies to disciplinary issues and struggles with fitness, Shaw has often found himself making headlines for the all wrong reasons. His recent exclusion from Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad, due to weight issues and a lack of discipline has raised the question on his commitment and professionalism.

Lack Of Professionalism

  • But it's not just his fitness that has raised eyebrows. Prithvi Shaw’s attitude on the field has also been a point of contention. In a now-famous incident, former Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting shared that Shaw had once refused to bat in the nets during a period of poor form. 
  • Despite being one of the most gifted batters in India, Shaw's inability to maintain his focus and work on his game during challenging times raised questions about his commitment and these could definitely be the reason behind his reason to go unsold. 

No Bids For Prithvi Shaw In IPL 2025

When the IPL 2025 auction began, there was a sense of hope among that maybe any franchise might take a chance on him, especially given his previous performances in the league. However, no franchise showed interest, and Shaw was left unsold at his base price of Rs 75 lakh. It is also worth mentioning that, Prithvi Shaw has also been excluded from the accelerated auction.
