Once peddled as the emerging superstar of Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw found no bidders at the recently concluded IPL 2025 mega auction. Despite lowering his base price to INR 75 lakh, Shaw faced a snub, and amid this, an old video of him hitting out at trolls is going viral on social media.
Prithvi Shaw, the 25-year-old opening batter from Mumbai, initially rose to fame for leading India to the U19 World Cup victory. Initially being hailed as the next big superstar, Shaw’s career trajectory was marred by injuries and controversies.
While his peers, including Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, and Abhishek Sharma, have already cemented their place in the Indian team, Shaw is even struggling to stay relevant in domestic cricket.
Prithvi Shaw breaks silence after IPL auction snub
After getting dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad, Prithvi Shaw went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction. At a marginal base price of INR 75 lakh, Shaw found no takers and will miss the upcoming IPL 2025 season. To add to his misery, Shaw even faced incessant trolling after a video of him dancing on his birthday went viral on social media.
A hurt Prithvi Shaw recently made a video replaying to the trolls. In the viral clip, Shaw is seen explaining his point of view, stating that trolling is fun until the thin line of disrespect is crossed. The memes on the internet hurt him deeply as he is being vilified without a fault. Shaw also addressed the controversy over his dance video, in which he questioned fans about whether celebrating a birthday is a crime for athletes.
That being said, Prithvi Shaw is included in Mumbai’s squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where the opener will seek redemption and hopefully silence the critics over constant humiliation.
Why was Shaw dropped from the Ranji trophy?
Prithvi Shaw was snubbed off Mumbai’s squad for the Ranji Trophy 2024/25 season, citing fitness concerns. As per rumours, Shaw’s body fat percentage exceeded 35% which is unacceptable to professional cricketing standards. However, in a statement, Shaw dismissed the claims, stating he needed a break. Having said that, the doors for return is open for Shaw given he passes necessary fitness tests in the second half.
