Delhi Capitals (DC) raised many eyebrows at the IPL 2025 mega auction after buying Englishman Harry Brook for INR 6.25 crores. Brook, who had been previously signed by DC in IPL 2024, pulled out of the tournament at the last minute, citing personal reasons.

At the IPL 2025 mega auction, Delhi Capitals sat on the table with a clear game plan. A reunion with Rishabh Pant was not on the cards and instead the owners went after KL Rahul to bag him for a steal price of INR 14 crore. They played smart to RTM Jake Fraser McGurk and also bought Faf du Plessis for a base price of INR 2 crore.

DC picks Harry Brook for INR 6.25 crore

Despite their top order set, DC went ahead to also buy Harry Brook for INR 6.25 crore. Brook, who had already ditched DC once, certainly didn’t make sense to fans.

Harry Brook was a talking point in his previous stint when SRH had bought him for an astonishing price of INR 13.25 crore in IPL 2023. He, however, barely lived up to that talk. He did get one century against KKR but altogether, he could muster just 190 runs from 11 games. In IPL 2024, he pulled out at the last minute, citing personal reasons.

While his IPL stats are nowhere close to being satisfactory, Harry Brook’s latest form in international cricket is perhaps a factor that encouraged DC ownership. Brook slammed a historic triple hundred against Pakistan in the Test series. Moreover, in the 5-game ODI series against Australia, the Englishman scored 312 runs, including a hundred, with a 127.87 strike rate.

Why Delhi Capitals bought Harry Brook?

That being said, Deli Capitals’ overall idea behind buying Harry Brook is to strengthen top-order depth. Faf and Fraser-McGurk are probable openers, with Rahul also in the mix. Brook is a versatile player who can bat anywhere in the middle order. In his T20I career, Brook had made 461 runs batting at no.5 with 20 games.

Overall, Harry Brook is a decent finisher option for DC. On his day, Brook can take on any mightiest bowler, and the subcontinent conditions suit his batting style. Though Brook might not be an everyday starter, DC can bank on him in tough situations or even impact player options in certain games.
