Delhi Capitals made a heartbreaking choice when they had to let go off their star player and captain, Rishabh Pant on the retention deadline day. As a result, when Pant's name came up in the mega auction, almost every team tried to grab him, but it was the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) who were victorious.
The Lucknow based franchise bought him for 27 crores and will likely appoint him as their new captain. DC didn't try hard to get Pant back in the auction, but that is because they have his replacement ready.
The Delhi side secured the services of Harry Brook in the mega auction and it was one of the steals of the day. The English batter recently scored a century against the Kiwis in the Test match, and he could be the one to fill in Pant's void in the side and here's why.
Brook has stellar middle-overs record like Pant
Rishabh Pant is known for his middle-overs dominance in the IPL. The Indian star has stellar stats for the Capitals and he was almost untouchable in the squad.
However, it seems like DC have their replacement ready in Harry Brook. The youngster, who quickly rose to fame as similar stats in the middle-overs in T20 cricket. Overall, in 76 matches, he has accumulated, 1417 runs, at a strike-rate of 146.7. These are brilliant numbers for someone who is believed to not have solid technique to survive.
Brook to bat at similar position as Pant
Brook had a disastrous IPL 2023 season for the Sunrisers, but since then the champion batter has improved his game. For Hyderabad, he used to open the innings sometimes, but that was not his usual position.
In DC, he will get a chance to bat at number 4, a position which he relishes and a position where Pant usually played for the Capitals. For England, Brook has played 7 matches at number 4 slot and in those matches, he has racked up 185 runs, but most importantly, the strike rate was 162.28.
The Arun Jaitley Stadium will suit his style of batting as the ball generally comes onto the bat nicely. With Tristan Stubbs likely to be the finisher, Brook will get a chance to bat at 4, where he can kick-start his IPL career.
