India cricketer Dinesh Karthik lauded the pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, saying that these two are one of the most "powerful" openers. Both Rohit and Gill ran amok at the R. Premadasa Stadium in the Super Four fixture of the Asia Cup 2023, scheduled between India and Pakistan.

The duo scored individual half-centuries, forging a counter-punching 121-run opening stand while taking the attack to the likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah.

Karthik showered his praise on Rohit and Gill, briefly explaining how good they were in facing the Pakistan bowlers on Sunday.

"Rohit Sharma set the ball rolling with a couple of lovely shots. After that, it was Shubman Gill who took a leaf out of his book and went ahead and played lovely drives. Great partnership - 121 off 100 which augurs well for the near future. They have an average of 96 in the limited time that they have opened. They are definitely one of the most powerful openers out there in world cricket. So, a lot of other teams need to be wary about them," Karthik said on Cricbuzz.

Further, the wicketkeeper-batter talked about Gill, who became the first batter to hit Shaheen for six boundaries in an ODI match.

"Yesterday was the day Shubman Gill showed the world why he is rated so highly. Some of the shots and the intent he showed against Shaheen Shah Afridi. Nobody had ever hit him for six fours in ODI cricket before. Gill being the first one to do it…," he added.

Incessant rain halted the proceedings on September 10 as the match moved to reserve day. India are at 251/2 in 40 overs with KL Rahul and Virat Kohli batting 72* and 57* runs respectively.
