The third day of the opening Test match between India and England showcased a remarkable display of resilience from the English batting lineup. Ollie Pope's outstanding century took center stage, while the intense battle between Joe Root and Jasprit Bumrah added another layer of excitement.

Bumrah's mastery of reverse swing was evident as he claimed two crucial wickets, including that of Root, during the middle session. Root, acknowledging Bumrah's prowess, commented:

"One of my frustrations was to not still be there at the back end of it, but he's a quality bowler with a huge amount of skill and pace."

During the post-day press conference, Root didn't shy away from praising Bumrah's performance, hinting at a budding rivalry between the two. Reflecting on his own dismissal, Root admitted disappointment but acknowledged the expected challenge from a bowler of Bumrah's caliber.

Root's dismissal by Bumrah marked a significant moment in the match, prompting Root to keep track of their personal battle, which he humorously assessed by saying

''So, 1-0 to him, although 1-1 actually as I got him out earlier. I'm sure that this battle will continue throughout the series."

Despite Root's struggles with the bat in this Test, his contribution with the ball has been noteworthy. Both Root and Bumrah have claimed four wickets each, setting the stage for an intriguing contest as the match progresses into its decisive stages on Day 4.
