Over eight years ago, during the toss of the India-New Zealand ODI series decider in Visakhapatnam, former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni delivered a poignant message urging every Indian to consistently respect and acknowledge the sacrifices made by soldiers. This message gained even more significance against the backdrop of escalating tension at the western border, where Indian soldiers were putting their lives on the line to safeguard the nation.

Dhoni emphasized the need to appreciate soldiers every day, not just on national occasions like Republic Day or Independence Day. He drew a parallel between the gratitude owed to soldiers and the appreciation due to mothers, stating:

"Often we talk about soldiers and get patriotic before the 26th of January and 15th of August. What's important is to get up everyday and thank them for what they have been doing and in the same way the contribution of mom, we need to appreciate it in the same way. "

In a thoughtful move, Dhoni highlighted the often overlooked contributions of mothers, expressing support for a special jersey designed with the names of players' mothers. He stressed the importance of recognizing the role played by mothers, urging the entire nation to keep it in mind and said:

"I think it's a brilliant initiative. Also what's important is that, we are quite used to surname from dad's side, but its important to appreciate the contribution of moms. If you ask about me, I was always emotionally connected towards my mom. It's just that the mother's contribution often we don't appreciate it the same way. It's something I request and the whole of India should keep in their mind."

This call for gratitude and appreciation resonated deeply, especially in the aftermath of an unfortunate incident where terrorists mutilated an Indian soldier's body in a cross-LoC attack, sending shockwaves across the country.

Dhoni's words served as a reminder to honor the sacrifices of both soldiers and mothers on a daily basis, transcending occasional patriotic fervor.
