Indian all-rounder, Shardul Thakur has revealed how MS Dhoni, the former India and CSK captain prepares players for his retirement.

Shardul stated that MSD allows players to grow, and makes them take their own decisions. The all-rounder played under former skipper, MSD during his time with CSK.

Shardul was released by the Super Kings squad, a couple of seasons ago, and was once again rehired last season, but this time around, the captaincy guard changed as Dhoni decided to step down from the post.

How MSD prepares players for his retirement? Shardul reveals

One of the sharpest brain in the game of cricket, Dhoni has an impeccable mind and he reads the game really well from behind the stumps. Shardul, while talking about Dhoni's greatness asserted that the former skipper never spoon-fed them, and pushed the players to prepare their own plans, so that when he retires, the players have the ability to take their own decisions, instead of relying on someone else.

"Playing with him has always been special because he allows us to grow. He allows us to come up with our own plan. So he will never spoon-feed us. He will say, 'Tomorrow I might not be available behind the wickets. What will you do? Go back to your room, think about your game, and come up with your plans, if it doesn't work then I will intervene," Shardul said at an event.

MSD was last seen in action during the IPL 2024 season, where he virtually played with just one knee. However, despite retirement rumours, there is no clarity from Dhoni on his imminent future.
