The Trent Rockets earned a convincing win against the London Spirit in the 20th match of The Hundred 2024. The Rockets, powered by Alex Hales and Rashid Khan's brilliance managed to win the game by 22 runs and put themselves in the third spot in the points table.

Alex Hales puts the Rockets ahead with his brilliant batting

The Rockets batted first in the game, after their skipper Lewis Gregory won the toss. They posted a formidable total of 166/4 in their 100 balls, fuelled by a brilliant knock from Alex Hales (68 off 42). Besides Hales, Tom Banton (36 off 25) and Joe Root (32 off 23) also played good hands with the bat. Rashid Khan provided the finishing touch by hitting a six of the last ball of the innings.

The Afghan superstar carried the momentum from the batting into his bowling effort. Rashid accounted for the important wickets of the Spirit skipper, Dan Lawrence and hard-hitting West Indian batter, Shimron Hetmyer of two consecutive deliveries. While he took these two wickets in the 7th set, Rashid followed it up with the wicket of Keaton Jennings in the next one at an interval of four balls. Jennings was looking dangerous and had already scored 31 off 17 by then. If Rashid did not lead to his demise, the southpaw could have taken the game away from the Rockets.

The Afghan all-rounder later accounted for Liam Dawson and finished his spell in the match with four wickets for 24 runs. This outstanding effort by Rashid earned him the Hero of the Match award as the Trent Rockets sealed an important win.
