The IPL 2025 mega-auction is slated to take place in December of 2024. Although, the retention rules and other details have not yet been released, news have been doing the rounds regarding these topics.

The general ideal is that each team might be allowed to retain 4-5 of their players from the IPL 2024 squad. There have also been talks of the purse of each team being increased by about INR 20-30 CR. This allow each team to reform their squads with new recruits while keeping their core more or less the same.

With all these news being the centre of talk of the cricket fans, a lot of discussion is going on about Rohit Sharma's future in Mumbai Indians. There is a belief that the Mumbai Indians might release their star skipper, who has been at the helm of the things during their five championship runs. If it realises to be true and MI does release Rohit Sharma, here are three teams that might look to buy him in the mega auction ahead of IPL 2025.

3. Delhi Capitals

The Delhi Capitals have been one of the most underperforming teams in the history of the tournament. They have changed around their squad and leaders, but nothing seems to get through to being the champions of the tournament. The biggest requirement for the Delhi Capitals will be a leader who can induct the championship mentality in them, and who better it can be barring Rohit Sharma. The Indian ODI and Test skipper has the experience of leading a team to five IPL titles and this could really be the missing piece in the puzzle for the Capitals. Besides getting an experienced leader, Rohit Sharma could also be an opener who gives them positive starts, keeping in ming his new approach to batting.

2. Royal Challengers Bengaluru

After Virat Kohli stepped down from the captaincy of the franchise, RCB handed over the responsibility to the South African legend, Faf du Plessis. He has served well for the team for the past two years, however, he has failed to end their trophy drought. With Kohli not much interested in taking up the role once again, RCB can look to pick up Rohit Sharma and use him as their leader for the next crop of players.

1.Chennai Super Kings

The legendary skipper of the Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni has stepped down from the leadership role ahead of the IPL 2024. The responsibility was handed over to the rising star, Ruturaj Gaikwad. While, it looks like CSK will be looking to rebuild the team with Gaikwad at the centre. They can pick up Rohit Sharma in the mega-auction, and even if they don't hand over the captaincy to Rohit, the CSK management can use him as one of the core members in the leadership group.
