Indian captain Rohit Sharma took an indirect dig at Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batter and curious absentee Ishan Kishan after his team's series-sealing win in the Ranchi Test against England.

Rohit, who was jubilant as Team India bagged an unassailable 3-1 scoreline with a magnificent five-wicket victory on Day 4, praised his battery of rising young players in the team while throwing a jibe at Kishan's commitment.

Without taking his young Mumbai Indians (MI) teammate's name during the post-match press conference, the skipper suggested he is lacking dedication towards Test cricket, which has been one major hallmark of the performances given by other youngsters such as Dhruv Jurel, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Kuldeep Yadav in the series.

When asked to speak in praise of the promising youth that has flourished despite inexperience to transform India's series fortunes with pivotal contributions after the loss in the first Test in Hyderabad, Rohit said the "hunger" of the young guns has been a stand-out feature of their on-field display.

Rohit said it augurs well for Indian cricket that young players want to excel in Test cricket and there is no point for him as skipper and the team management to invest time in those who don't wish to put in the hard yards in the longest version of the game.

"Jinko Test Cricket ka bhook nehi hai, wo dekh k pata chal jata hai. Un sab ko khilane ka kya faida? (those who are hungry to play Test cricket, it's visible when you see them play. There is no point in playing those who don't want to play Test cricket)," Rohit said at the press conference in Ranchi.

It was an indirect dig on Kishan, who had made himself unavailable for selection for the ongoing Test series against England, with coach Rahul Dravid stating clearly that the young wicketkeeper-batter needs to first make himself available and play the Ranji Trophy for the team to reconsider him.
