R Ashwin's great comeback and a five-wicket haul after initial struggles in the England series on Day 3 of the Ranchi Test reinforced the legendary off-spinner's class and ability while also setting the stage perfectly towards his 100th Test for India in Dharamshala.

Ashwin's fantastic spell of 5 for 51 helped India bundle out England for 145 and set up a chase of 192 to clinch their third consecutive win of the five-match series and also raised expectations of a special performance from the 37-year-old when India reach the scenic venue in Himachal Pradesh for the fifth Test.

Either way, the fixture in Dharamshala will be a special one for Ashwin as he will become the latest Indian with 100 or more caps with him at the Test level and one of his biggest admirers, legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar reckons it would be a fitting gesture if captain Rohit Sharma allows his great bowler to lead the team onto the field.

R Ashwin To Play His 100th Test In Dharamshala

"India win tomorrow, and you go to Dharamshala (for fifth and final Test), I just hope that Rohit allows you to lead the team out to the field. That'll be a wonderful gesture, honour for all that you have done for Indian cricket," Gavaskar said on JioCinema while speaking with Ashwin after the day's play was over with India whipping out 40 of the 192 runs required for a victory.

In response, Ashwin expressed his contentment and said he isn't too fussed over the gestures and compliments that are made for him these days and is focused on giving his heart and sweat on the cricket field.

"Sunny bhai, you are being too generous, thanks so much. However, expectations about all these things, I think I am well past all that. But genuinely saying, I am enjoying every single moment I am being with this team. The longer it lasts, I will be happy," Ashwin said.

Ashwin will be heading into his 100th Test with a colossal 507 wickets taken for India at an average of 23.92 with 35 five-wicket hauls.
