India’s Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant made a massive statement with the bat on Day 2 of the first Test against England at Headingley. He smashed an audacious 137 off just 157 balls, and Sanjeev Goenka, who owns the Pant-led LSG franchise in the IPL, gave his skipper a big shoutout on social media.

The platform was set for Pant after Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill hit a hundred each on Day 1. On Day 2, the wicket-keeper batter hogged the limelight with some entertaining shots and reached his hundred in style.

On a flat deck, Rishabh Pant was toying with English bowlers, especially skipper Ben Stokes and spinner Shoaib Bashir. He hit audacious reverse sweeps and completed his hundred by hitting a huge six off Bashir.

In his 137 off just 157 balls knock, Pant struck 12 fours and 6 sixes, bringing Headingley to life with his daring strokeplay.

Meanwhile, LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka was highly impressed with Rishabh Pant’s entertaining knock.  Although the IPL 2025 season was a disappointment, with LSG not making the playoffs and Pant being inconsistent, Goenka said that Rishabh’s aggressive style of play says a lot about character.

"Rishabh reaching his ton with a six speaks volumes about the future of Indian cricket," Goenka said on his X handle.

Interestingly, Pant's 137-run innings also propelled him past MS Dhoni and Kumar Sangakkara in the tally of most Test runs by Asian wicket-keepers in SENA nations (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia).

Pant Surpasses Indian Wicket-Keepers

India’s Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant now holds the record for most Test centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper, overtaking MS Dhoni with his 7th ton against England at Headingley. He surpassed Dhoni's tally of six, cementing his place at the top of the list featuring legends like Syed Kirmani, Farokh Engineer, Wriddhiman Saha, and Dhoni. Out of the 7 tons, Pant scored 5 in overseas conditions.
