The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has started a week-long celebration to mark 25 years of receiving Test status. The first event was held on Saturday at the Khulna District Stadium and was filled with fun and excitement for both kids and parents.
Hundreds of children and their families joined the celebrations and took part in different activities like a six-a-side cricket tournament, a drawing competition, and even a stump-hitting contest.
There was also a special campaign to create awareness among parents about sports and its importance.
Bangladesh Celebrate Silver Jubilee Of Test Status
25 years ago on June 26, 2000, Bangladesh officially became a Test nation, becoming the only 10th country to achieve the status at that time. In 2025, they celebrate the silver jubilee of the special recognition.
At the first of the many celebratory events held in Khulna, several important guests were present, including BCB vice-president Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, former Bangladesh cricketer Tushar Imran, former women's team captain Salma Khatun, and local officials.

Talking to Daily Star, Fahim shared that the players from Bangladesh’s first-ever Test match will be honoured in a special reception at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on June 26.
After Khulna, similar events will be held in Rajshahi (June 22), Sylhet (June 23), Chattogram (June 24), Dhaka (June 25), and finally Rangpur and Barishal (June 28).
BCB hopes these celebrations will inspire a new generation to value and support Test cricket, which is considered the purest and most challenging form of the game.
Currently, the Bangladesh cricket team is touring Sri Lanka in a lengthy all-format tour. The first of the 2-game Test series ended in a draw. After the second Test, both sides will compete in a 3-game ODI and T20I series, respectively.
