The 2025 edition of the IPL has been a nightmare for the Rajasthan Royals (RR), who closed their season with only 4 wins out of 14 matches. Although batting coach Vikram Rathour conceded the failures in all departments, he was hopeful about a brighter future.
RRR assembled a solid team in the IPL 2025 mega auction, but the firepower did not translate from paper to field. Captain Sanju Samson being injured and unavailable on the field, Riyan Parag gave in to the pressure of captaincy.
The Royals ended their campaign with 4 wins in 14 games and dropped to 9th spot in the points table. After the fallout, batting coach Vikram Rathour reacted to RR’s dismal campaign.
Vikram Rathour Hurt After RR Bow Out Of IPL 2025
Undoubtedly, this is the Rajasthan Royals’ worst season since the IPL expanded to 10 teams in 2022. They have had bad seasons before, finishing last in 2020 and second-last in 2010, 2019, and 2021, but 2025 stands out as one of their most disappointing campaigns.
Meanwhile, batting coach Vikram Rathour spoke about what went wrong for the team and admitted flaws in all three departments, i.e., batting, bowling, and fielding.
"I don’t think we particularly fielded very well in this tournament. Bowling wise, we were let down a few times when they let the opposition score 10-15 extra runs in most of the games. Batting was our strength as we had retained five batters in our squad," Rathour said to cricket.com.
Rathour added that RR were in winnable positions in at least 3 games but could not seal it. Nevertheless, the coach is of the opinion that the worst is over and hopes for a better future.
"At times we got terrific starts, we got ourselves into positions where we should have finished the game, so yeah it hurts. But it also gives you hope for the next season because the worst is over. Next season we are going to come as an even stronger batting unit as all these guys will have played at least one more year of international and domestic cricket," he added.
3 Big Positives For RR In IPL 2025
Regardless of a disappointing IPL 2025 season, Rajasthan Royals had cause for optimism in the emergence of 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who hammered 252 runs at a strike rate of 206.56. Dhruv Jurel justified his INR 14 crore retention with 333 runs, while Indian pacers Akash Madhwal and Yudhvir Singh impressed late in the season. These positives hint at a promising future for RR ahead of IPL 2026.
