Rajasthan Royals fell a run short of defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the latter’s home ground in match number 53 of the IPL 2025 season. Chasing 207 at the Eden Gardens, captain Riyan Parag’s heroic knock of 95 runs from just 45 balls took the attack to the KKR bowlers before his dismissal dried up the runs in the slog overs for the visitors.
Royals’ latest defeat marked their ninth of the season as their troubles worsened after bowing out of the playoffs race, leaving head coach Rahul Dravid visibly dejected in the dugout.
Rahul Dravid dejected over another Royals’ choke
Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid was left stone-faced after his team slipped to a narrow defeat against defending champions and hosts KKR on Sunday, May 4. Chasing 207 runs for a win, the Royals reached 205-8 from 20 overs despite Riyan Parag’s six-frenzy.

As it turned out, KKR batted first and mounted 206-4 from 20 overs upfront. Andre Russell muscled out an unbeaten 57* from just 25 balls with four fours and six huge sixes. Rinku Singh also clobbered 19* from just six balls at the death, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rahmanullah Gurbaz slapped 44 and 35 runs respectively.
In response, Rajasthan Royals lost two early wickets, and three in quick succession during the middle overs before captain Riyan Parag went berserk with his six-laden 95-run knock from just 45 balls. Parag even launched six successive sixes at one stage of the innings. However, some tight spells from spinners Moeen Ali and Varun Chakravarthy as well as from fast bowlers Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora ensured Rajasthan Royals fell a run short.
The Royals will now face fellow-struggling CSK team on Monday, May 12 in Chennai.
