Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and captain MS Dhoni faced fans’ wrath for promoting spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to no.4 against RR. The bowling all-rounder was sent to bat in the powerplay, a move that didn’t make sense to many.

With the playoff berth out of their reach, CSK took on RR in the 62nd match of IPL 2025 season held at Delhi. At the toss, captain MS Dhoni hinted at experiments for the sake of rebuilding the future.

However, promoting Ashwin to no.4 was certainly a move many fans and critics didn’t see coming. 

Fans Lash Out At CSK For Baffling Strategy Vs RR

Chennai Super Kings batted first against Rajasthan Royals, and Ayush Mhatre got a blazing start with a fiery 43 off just 20 balls. However, Yudhvir Singh turned the tide in RR’s favour with 2 quick wickets of Devon Conway and Urvil Patel.

Meanwhile, CSK left the fans shocked and angry by sending Ravichandran Ashwin to bat at no.4, that too in the powerplay. The leg-spinner couldn’t contribute much as he was dismissed by Wanindu Hasaranga on 13 off 8 balls.

However, in a major fallout, fans slammed CSK for their baffling strategy. They deemed the franchise unserious and brainless.

Notably, CSK are not having a great season as they became the first team to get eliminated from the playoff race. On top of that, such unconventional choices at the business end of the tournament have left supporters frustrated.

That being said, following Ashwin’s dismissal, CSK also lost Ravindra Jadeja, leaving them 78/5 in 7.4 overs.
