Rajasthan Royals had a fitting finish to their IPL 2025 campaign last night, defeating Chennai Super Kings by six wickets in the 62nd group-stage affair of the competition. Led by Sanju Samson, RR had a dismal campaign this season, finishing ninth in the points table with four wins in fourteen matches.

However, despite their group-stage exit, the Royals had several positives, which they would happily take heading to the next season.

1. Vaibhav Suryavanshi's emergence

  • The unfortunate side injury to Sanju Samson proved to be a blessing in disguise for Rajasthan Royals, as they were able to unleash Vaibhav Suryavanshi at the IPL.
  • The 14-year-old grabbed the golden opportunity with both hands, making an instant impact by becoming the youngest-ever centurion in the tournament.
  • Suryavanshi was one of the rare shining lights for Rajasthan Royals this season, forming a fearsome opening pair with Yashasvi Jaiswal. His emergence ensures Sanju Samson can bat at his preferred number three slot in the 2026 season.
  • The fact that he hammered 252 runs across just seven innings at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 206.56 signified his immense batting potential, making him one of the brightest prospects to watch out for in the IPL 2026.

2. Dhruv Jurel living up to his price tag

(Dhruv Jurel's stats in IPL 2025)

  • Young Indian batter Dhruv Jurel was retained by RR at a whopping price of INR 14 Crores. Considering he had only 347 runs at an average of just over 23, RR's decision to retain him over Jos Buttler raised a million eyebrows.
  • However, Jurel exhibited consistency with the bat, finishing the season as RR's third-highest run-getter. His ability to switch gears according to the match situation was evident throughout the tournament, as he played some excellent knocks for the Royals.
  • Thus, Dhruv Jurel finally living up to his potential could be termed as one of the few positives that RR can take out from an otherwise forgettable IPL 2025 campaign.

3. Solid Indian pace battery

  • Jofra Archer and Sandeep Sharma led RR's pace battery for the majority part of the IPL 2025. However, injuries to these two experienced pacers forced the RR think tank to give some game time to their reserve seamers - Akash Madhwal and Yudhvir Singh.
  • Madhwal had an ordinary start, going wicketless against MI and KKR. However, he eventually redeemed himself, showcasing his calibre against CSK. Yudhvir Singh also showed glimpses of his potential, as the duo rattled CSK with clinical three-wicket hauls in RR's final group-stage encounter.
  • Thus, RR's pace battery, comprising Tushar Deshpande, Yudhvir Singh and Akash Madhwal ensured they had something to cheer about despite losing ten matches this season.
