Sundar praised Gill for his captaincy [X]
Washington Sundar and Shubman Gill played key roles in India's victory against Zimbabwe in the third T20I.
Sundar was named Player of the Match for taking three crucial wickets, while captain Gill top-scored for India with 66 runs. After losing the first T20I, India made a strong comeback under Gill's leadership.
Following the third match, Sundar and Gill differed in their pitch evaluations. Gill believed that batting on the Harare pitch was challenging, while Sundar disagreed, stating that it wasn't particularly difficult.
Despite this, Sundar had no doubts about Gill's leadership capabilities and praised his recent performance as the captain.
"Gill has been really, really good - he has his own plans - it's such a happy feeling to play under him, he has helped all of us - his leadership has been amazing"-Sundar said.
Leadership Options for team India
With Rohit Sharma retired from the T20 format, a huge leadership void will soon emerge in the Indian team. Hardik Pandya is expected to take over as T20 captain, with either Shubman Gill or Suryakumar Yadav likely serving as his deputy.
In ODIs, Rohit Sharma will continue to lead until at least the next Champions Trophy, but a new leader will be needed in the near future.
KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, and Shubman Gill are candidates for the ODI captaincy. Therefore, smaller series like the one against Zimbabwe will be crucial for players like Gill, who have captaincy ambitions.
Gill has been doing well in the series, but he has to perform consistently to be named the next captain.
