As per emerging reports, head coach Gautam Gambhir has proposed the name of former South African speedster Morne Morkel as India's bowling coach.

According to Cricbuzz, Morkel is the latest candidate in the race to hold the esteemed position alongside ex-Indian seamers Zaheer Khan, L Balaji and R Vinay Kumar.

Gambhir requests BCCI to rope in Morkel

The report claims that Gambhir, who recently succeeded Rahul Dravid as India's head coach, has requested the BCCI to appoint the veteran Proteas pacer as India's bowling coach.

Notably, the duo had an impressive IPL coaching stint with Lucknow Super Giants where Gambhir served as the mentor for two years.

Even after Gambhir left the LSG camp for his homecoming to KKR, Morkel continued as the Super Giants' bowling coach in the IPL 2024. Thus, both ex-cricketers share a great bond and can work collaboratively for the betterment of Indian cricket.

Morne Morkel's experience as player and coach

Morkel, who formed a lethal bowling duo alongside Dale Steyn, has represented South Africa in 247 international matches, scalping 544 wickets across formats.

After his retirement in 2018, the talismanic pacer served as Pakistan's bowling coach during the ODI World Cup last year. With ample coaching experience, Morkel can add immense value to the Indian bowling attack.
