Legendary Australian batter Steve Smith oozed his class as a fielder for the umpteenth time as his stunning throw ran out Shubham Ranjane in Washington Freedom's MLC 2024 encounter against Seattle Orcas.

The incident occurred during the 14th over of the Orcas' innings when Ranjane was forming a consolidating stand with ace South African batter Heinrich Klaasen. 

Coming from over the wicket, Ian Holland bowled a length delivery around the off stump, with Ranjane nudging it towards the off side with soft hands. 

As Smith was fielding near the 30-yard circle, the Seattle batters started running for a risky single. 

However, the Aussie great showed exemplary athleticism, picking the ball up quickly and throwing it towards the stumps at the non-striker's end. 

Before Ranjane could make his ground, Smith's direct hit disturbed the furniture, running him out by the barest margin. 

Smith, who struck scintillating unbeaten knocks against MI New York and Texas Super Kings, was castled by Cameron Gannon for 12 runs in the sixth over. 

However, despite a mini batting collapse, Washington Freedom successfully chased the 125-run target, riding on a fighting sixth wicket stand between Obus Pienaar and Lahiru Milantha.
