Rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal shot himself to unprecedented stardom by extinguishing England’s ‘BazBall’ march in India. In the space of nine innings spanning across five Test matches, the prodigious batting talent pounded 712 runs at an astounding average of 79.91.

Jaiswal’s run-fest against England featured a couple of match-winning double hundreds and three additional half-centuries. Fittingly bagging the ‘Player of the Series’ award, the youngster headlined India’s triumphant 4-1 win over the visitors.

Jaiswal reveals batting mindset and pre-series routine

Quite recently, Yashasvi Jaiswal revealed his batting anecdote and also spoke in length about his pre-series planning through a candid interview. While speaking with the Indian Express, the youngster admitted that he was once removed from the nets owing to his continual batting obsession.

The 22-year-old added that he follows a strict routine ahead of any lengthy series, and claimed that he is only able to “sleep well” whenever he is “batting well” in the nets. He said:

“That is true. I love batting and feel I’m really lucky that I’m getting to do what I love the most. I want to work hard, give my 100 percent. I can sleep well when I bat well in the nets. It’s a process, be it batting, eating, or listening to people on how they became great. Be punctual, disciplined and consistent. If I have to play five Test matches, then I need to sleep well, eat well, and be on the ground on time. It’s like a routine and I don’t want to break that routine.”

Citing his latest Test ventures against England at home and against South Africa (away), Yashasvi Jaiswal also unveiled his pre-series mentality. He added:

“I didn’t do much because I was already playing in South Africa. I was in a good zone. I got to learn a lot from South Africa and it was a good experience. I was trying to make sure that if I get set, I score big runs. It was the only thing crossing my mind.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal made his Test debut with a match against West Indies back in July 2023 at Roseau. The youngster celebrated the occasion by making a sublime 171, and shaped scores of 57 and 38 in both innings of the subsequent Test at Port of Spain.

Jaiswal’s prolific series against England has now bolstered his Test average up to a staggering 68.53. During the course of the series, he also became one of the fastest and youngest Indian batters to scale the 1,000-run landmark figure.

As of now, the Mumbai-based batting talent is prepping up for the forthcoming IPL 2024 season as part of his commitment for the Rajasthan Royals franchise.
