Minnu Mani struck in her first over of the innings to give Delhi Capitals early control over Gujarat Giants in match number 20 of the ongoing WPL 2024 season.

The 25-year-old cricketer, playing just her fourth match of the tournament, mystified Gujarat Giants’ Australian import Ashleigh Gardner with a ripper right after the opening powerplay.

Tasked to bowl the ninth over of the Gujarat Giants innings by her skipper Meg Lanning, young Minnu Mani made instant impact by accounting for the wicket of well-set middle-order batter Ashleigh Gardner.

Gardner, who had arrived to the crease at 16-3 in just 4.2 overs, cautiously shaped up 12 runs during her rescue act with Phoebe Litchfield, before she was deceived by Mani’s sharp turn that went on to shatter her stumps.

As it turned out, the wicket marked the first in the collection of Minnu Mani’s WPL tally. She also entrapped Phoebe Litchfield the following over to seize her second wicket, as Gujarat Giants slipped to 48-5 inside their first 11 overs of the innings.

Earlier in the match, Gujarat Giants skipper Beth Mooney had won the toss and opted to bat first in their dead-rubber against the season’s table-toppers at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Both Giants openers, captain Mooney herself as well as Laura Wolvaardt, were accounted by Delhi Capitals’ new-ball speedster Marizanne Kapp within the first five overs. Kapp’s bowling partner Shikha Pandey cleaned up Bharti Fulmali and Tanuja Kanwar off successive deliveries as Gujarat Giants managed to tally just 126-9 off their 20 overs.
