James Anderson and Shubman Gill had a verbal go at each other when the two cricketers squared off at Dharamshala’s HPCA Stadium for the fifth and final Test match of the series.

While Gill declined to divulge the contents of his altercation to the reporters, Anderson recently opened up on his exchange with the young batter.

James Anderson reveals how he riled up Shubman Gill

While speaking on BBC’s Tailenders podcast, James Anderson opened up on his verbal altercation with India’s number three batsman Shubman Gill.

“I said something to him like, ‘Do you get any runs outside India?’ and he said, ‘It’s time to retire. Then two balls later, I got him out," the legendary fast bowler, who made Gill his Test victim number 699, stated.

Shubman Gill, meanwhile, had already scored 110 in the innings to bolster up India’s lead alongside captain and fellow centurion Rohit Sharma.

Team India ended up winning the contest by an innings and 64 runs to seal their five-match home series by a 4-1 margin.

Despite featuring on the losing side, the match marked a significant occasion for James Anderson, considering the legendary cricketer breached the 700-wicket threshold by dismissing India’s tailender Kuldeep Yadav early on Day 3.

The 41-year-old became only the third cricketer in history after Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan, and the first among all fast bowlers to reach the landmark figure.

As of now, Anderson sits on an illustrious Test tally of 700 scalps, holding an astonishing bowling average of 26.52.
