Yash Dayal, the promising left-arm pacer from Uttar Pradesh, recently received his maiden Test call-up for India's first Test against Bangladesh. His journey to this milestone, however, has been nothing short of dramatic.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 remains etched in the minds of cricket fans, where Rinku Singh hit five consecutive sixes off Dayal, in what became a defining moment of the tournament. For Yash’s family, especially his father Chanderpal Dayal, the memory of that day still lingers painfully.

Yash’s father, Chanderpal, shared with the media how deeply the event affected the family. “Humare liye woh ek hadsa tha (It was like an accident for us),”  he remarked, vividly recalling the traumatic incident.

“The school bus would pass by, and kids would scream, ‘Rinku Singh, Rinku Singh, five sixes.’ It was so painful — why did this have to happen to my son?” he said while hiding his tears.

Not only Yash, but his mother, Radha, was also devastated. She became so distressed that she refused to eat and even fell ill as her son retreated into a shell, grappling with the aftermath.

“His mother Radha was so distraught that she fell ill and refused to eat as Yash went into a shell. Titans also released him as he had to rebuild his career,” Chanderpal added.

Yash Dayal's Comeback After 2023 IPL Setback

Despite this low point, Yash Dayal worked diligently to rebuild his career. In the IPL 2024, he joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and showcased his grit by taking 15 wickets in 14 matches, helping the team qualify for the playoffs.

His recent performance in the Duleep Trophy further demonstrated his progress, as he took three wickets to help India B defeat Shubman Gill's India A by 76 runs. This strong showing underscored his readiness for greater challenges and earned him his maiden call-up to India's squad for the first Test against Bangladesh.
