Kohli, Pant Return, Shreyas Iyer Neglected As India Squad Announced For 1st Test Vs Bangladesh
Kohli returns to the India Test squad [x]
The Team India squad for the first Test against Bangladesh has been announced by the BCCI. As expected, there hasn't been too many changes, with Rohit Sharma set to lead the side, and Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant back in the Test team.
Shreyas ignored despite fifty in Duleep Trophy
However, there is no space for Shreyas Iyer in the Indian team for the first Test. The middle-order batter scored crucial runs in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy match, but has been ignored by the selectors.
He failed in the first innings of the Duleep Trophy match but bounced back in style to score a fifty in the second innings, but despite this, the selectors ignored him for the first Test match.
Bowling/batting witnesses fresh and old faces
An interesting call has been made to include Yash Dayal in the squad. The RCB star performed well in the IPL and was outstanding with the ball in the just concluded round 1 of the Duleep Trophy.
The batting core remains the same from India’s last Test series against England. Speculations were there that KL Rahul wouldn’t be there in the squad, but the new head coach, Gautam Gambhir has shown full faith in him. Also, Sarfaraz Khan finds a place in the side. The dynamic batter had an excellent series against England and deservingly gets a chance once again.
The bowling core, too, remains intact, with R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel forming the dangerous spin quadruple. Bumrah is back in the side, and it is a blessing in disguise for the Indian side. He hasn’t played any competitive cricket since the T20 World Cup triumph, and will make his return on September 19.
