Yash Dayal recently got his maiden call-up in the Indian Test side which speaks a lot about how he has turned the tables since Rinku Singh smashed him for five sixes in an over during IPL 2023. He moved from GT to RCB for IPL 2024, and delivered a strong performance, turning out to be a trump card for the side with crucial wickets in critical junctures.
One of those moments was against CSK in a must-win game. RCB needed to win that game by 18 runs or more to qualify for the playoffs, and in the final over, they had just 16 to play with. Yash Dayal was handed the responsibility of taking his team through and the man on the other side was none other than MS Dhoni. The talismanic batter smashed the first ball for a six, and it seemed that the finisher would take CSK over the line again.
Virat Kohli's Golden Advice For Yash Dayal
However, Yash Dayal unleashed a slower delivery on the following ball, and MS Dhoni miscued it. He lost his wicket and RCB eventually won the game and qualified for the playoffs as well. It was quite a brave delivery to deliver under pressure and the left-arm seamer has now revealed on News24 Sports that it was Virat Kohli who told him to bowl a slower delivery.
He also stated that Virat Kohli calmed him down after the six off the first ball and it really helped the youngman.
"Virat bhaiya told me to not give pace to Mahi bhai, because he likes pace, so Virat bhaiya calmed me down after the 1st ball six, a chat with him helped me a lot."
Yash Dayal was the leading wicket-taker for RCB in IPL 2024, and has consistently done well across formats in domestic cricket. He is now in the Indian Test side and in the same interview with News24 Sports, he has revealed that he wants to play 100 Test matches for the country.
